Create Your Woman’s Cave at Home - Dana Dinnawi

Every woman should have a space to call her own at home, whether you have a day job that keeps you out of the house all day; you work from home or you’re a stay at home mom.

While it doesn’t take a lot to motivate me to get up and do the work I love, it certainly takes it to the next level when I can do what I love in a surrounding that’s calm, inviting and inspirational. A few months ago I spent a few hours decluttering and nurturing my creative side by finally putting together a home office space for myself. I’d been shuffling around the apartment for a few months experimenting to find the best location (the dining table during the day was perfect—big enough for all my stuff-laptop, papers, notebooks wires, phone, until the kids came home and then I moved to the common work space because we need to actually eat on the dining table and because that’s where I could charge my devices; other days the kitchen counter made sense since I needed to cook and take photos of what I make; but then the couch was more comfortable while talking to clients; ) because I absolutely refused to bring my work into my bedroom.

But all this movement left me feeling scatterbrained.

This can be one of the most exciting rooms/spaces to do in a house. It is an opportunity to really personalize and make this special space productive and functional. Whether your space occupies one room or a small corner somewhere in your home, allow for storage, work space and beautiful accessories that inspire you.

Since I love IKEA, I headed there and picked up a desk, chair, small storage containers to fit on my desk as well as small knick knacks, frames and artificial flowers (I’m allergic to the smell of fresh flowers). I already had stationary that I loved and used that to add color. This is what I came up with.

A few months later, even though this space worked perfectly and I loved waking up to it every morning, it felt a bit stifling to be staring at a wall for hours every day. I’m a firm believer that your home is your sanctuary and it should reflect your taste and fulfill your needs whatever they may be, so I did get a few raised eyebrows that I put my “office” in the middle of our “formal” space. But hey, it’s my house, my rules and now I get alot of compliments on it.
