apple photoIn the coming weeks, you’re going to find many online posts about the latest health “trend” or what’s the best way to get fit and ready for your bikini this summer. As a health coach, I don’t really follow “trends.” (And I don’t expect you to get into a bikini either). You won’t find me wildly extolling the benefits of one way of eating and then one year later tell you it was all a hoax and really, THIS is what you should be doing now.

My job is look at the whole picture; support you; and walk you through the process to empower you to be able to create a strong and solid foundation for your health where you understand HOW to eat and not just simply WHAT to eat.

If you’ve been following me since the beginning I’ve basically been saying 10 main things:

  1. Drink green juices and smoothies.
  2. Make fruits and vegetables 80-90% of your daily food intake.
  3. Remove or greatly reduce inflammatory foods (wheat, dairy, sugar, processed food, processed oil).
  4. Add in good fats like coconut oil and olive oil.
  5. Drink plenty of water–33ml of water per kg of body weight to be exact.
  6. Minimal animal protein consumption, but make your own decision about whether or not animal protein works for you.
  7. Minimal grain consumption but make your own decision about whether or not beans/legumes work for you.
  8. One person’s food may be another’s poison.
  9. Food is not “good” or “bad” but simply an experiment. Some experiments work, some, not so much.
  10. There are no quick fixes. Your food journey is a process. You’re always going to be tweaking it, so relax.

Actually, make that 11:

11. Drink warm water with lemon every morning.

By eating in this way, you support your body so it may function at its full potential. I see many clients who suffer from allergies, stress, fatigue, headaches, hormonal imbalances, digestive issues, weak immune systems, and skin problems. These are your body’s cries for help. It is asking for a time to rest, rejuvenate, be deeply nurtured, and “tuned up.” And by applying these principles, yes, you will need to put a little extra time and attention into breaking from your routine, but your reward will be feeling like you have a new lease on life!
