There are two types of food: secondary food-which is basically what you eat– all that nourishes your body on a physical level and gives you energy; and primary foods, those sources of nourishment that feed us on a spiritual level. So that could be your relationships, your career, exercise or spirituality. But primary foods are also anything that we do for the simple act of feeling fulfilled and lit up; anything that gives us a feeling of bliss, enjoyment, excitement and losing all sense of time.  Creativity is one of those pieces.

You might be in tune with your artistic side but chances are, you’ve hidden it away in favor of more practical day-to-day skills. But think back to when you were younger. Did you love to write? Paint? Take photos? Did you knit, dance, sing, or draw?

As an adult, do you love to dress up or decorate your home?

What is that talent that you were born with?

While you may have lost touch with this over the years, you were born with an innate desire to create. Make a point of rediscovering this special gift by flexing your creative muscles in small ways each day. Whether it involves doodling on a scrap piece of paper, playing music, or putting pen to paper to craft a poem matters very little. By merely flexing this muscle you can bring it back to life and it can lead to beautiful innovations. Commit to seeking artistic expression on  a regular basis.  Having that intimate time with yourself is very special, and sharing your art is an amazing way to share your heart with others.

To jumpstart your creative muscle, ask yourself these questions:

What are your favorite ways to express yourself artistically?

What do you love to build or create?

What projects keep you lost for hours?

If you are working on something that makes you jump out of bed to go do, what is creative in that?

To what do you always say “I will do that someday” or“I have always wanted to do that” or “I wish I could do that.”

When you see another person creating, how do you feel?

How can you wield some greater creativity in the kitchen with your cooking/food prep?

Can you get creative in learning something new to add to your repertoire of knowledge?

How might you make your career more interesting by bringing creativity to it?

What can you bring to your relationships in a more creative way?

How might you be more creative to bring about greater health?

Where can you bring creativity to create more joy?

How about adding creative ways to bring greater fulfillment to your social life?

What in your home environment could use a bit of creativity to bring greater happiness?

Let me know what you came up with!
