I know a few things about skin care.

These are my before and after photos of what my skin used to look like. My acne started when I was 14 and only went away a few years ago after I completely cleaned up my diet and switched to natural skin care products even though I had tried EVERY SINGLE PRODUCT you can imagine before that.

The photo on the left is from 2001. I was 28, had 2 kids, was doing my MA in English and Comparative Literature and this was the face I had to walk out with everyday. You can see my acne on my forehead, chin, cheeks–all over really.

Except no-one really saw it like that because I had it covered up with about 6 inches of heavy foundation and concealer every day. But if it was a hot day, as that day was, the makeup would slide right off because my complexion was just SO oily.


And my face looked like that since I was about 14 when my acne first started and it’s the face I had up until about 4 years ago.

The photo in the middle is me a few days ago. I snapped this selfie first thing in the morning to show you what I look like without any makeup at all. I still have my freckles but my acne is completely gone.

And the last photo is of me when I get dressed up a bit. I don’t need to use heavy foundation any more–just a little bit of tinted moisturiser, eyeliner, mascara and lipgloss. And not every day. Most days I just look like the photo in the middle.

My name is Dana Dinnawi and I am a holistic health and wellness lifestyle coach. I want to empower you to get out of the cycle of yo-yo dieting. I have personally experienced the trauma, (yes trauma), of bad skin and how that can shake your confidence. My acne just wouldn’t budge no matter what I tried, or what new medication my new dermatologist gave me or what new cream or procedure (and there were some very severe procedures) to get rid of the acne and to reduce the scarring.

It all worked but with very short-term results. Nothing was sustainable and nothing gave me back my confidence. I could NEVER leave the house without a heavy layer of foundation to cover my insecurity.

Right now I have a very different complexion—no more acne, no more trauma, no more daily foundation to go out and much more confidence.

And I want to show you how to do that too.

I created this program to show you how to restore and rebalance your skin from within—because, as I’ve personally experienced, that’s where skin is REALLY restored, not by using topical chemical toxins that only add to your skin’s burden.

My skin improved dramatically after I changed what I ate, but the real transformation happened when I also changed my commercial products and prioritized self care.

You know the old saying “beauty is skin deep?”

Although it refers to internal beauty as opposed to physical beauty there is great truth to it in a very different way.

No matter what your standard of beauty is and I use the word loosely, I think it’s safe to say we want clear, even, glowing skin no matter our age (minimal wrinkles is a plus).

The problem with modern beauty fixes (much like modern diet fixes) is that they don’t address the ROOT cause of why you have a pimple, wrinkle, crease, red blotches or uneven skin tone.

They only work to cover these issues up (temporarily) from the outside.

And in the same way that long-lasting health is built from deep within you, on a very delicate, intricate cellular level (whether that is permanent weight loss; disease prevention; arthritis, migraines, diabetes, heart disease or even cancer) then no where is that more applicable than the state of your skin.

Your skin is your largest organ.

Let that sink in for a moment. Your largest organ. And yet. It is the organ that gets relegated to the back of the line when it comes to nutrition distribution in your body.

That’s because it’s not vital. You don’t need your skin to breathe or to pump blood in the same way you need your lungs, heart or liver.

So basically it can wait.

And wait it does. It waits for your body to feed your vital organs first. It waits patiently.

Because most of the time you’re feeding your body foods that aren’t very nutrient dense (meaning they have little pure essential nutrition)-your vital organs grab what they need first and rightly so. But that leaves your skin with all the leftovers-the rejects-if anything at all.

It stays hungry.


If it were as simple as little or no nutrition, that might be the end of the issue here.


Here’s what happens when you’re fueling your body with wheat, dairy, sugar, processed oils and an overload of caffeine on a meal by meal day to day basis:

You have substances in your body called Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs).  AGEs are responsible for speeding up-or slowing down-the aging process in your body and that includes ageing and damage to your organs, your joints and of course, your skin.

One of the factors that causes the increase in AGE levels in the body is elevated blood sugar levels, or more specifically, continuously elevated blood sugar levels.

When you consume wheat, even whole-wheat, which is widely believed to be healthy and is recommended over conventional white flour, your blood sugar level spikes-then crashes. And it spikes even HIGHER than if you were to consume pure, white table sugar (the other skin-aging culprit).

So basically, anytime you eat bread (wholewheat, multigrain, rye, Egyptian “balady” bread, sourdough); cereals (all bran, multigrain, muesli); pasta; muffins (even your favorite low-fat muffin); pizza; cakes; cookies; desserts or any baked goods, you are raising your blood sugar levels. Yes, a piece of bread is just as bad as a piece of cake.

Once your blood sugar levels are raised, and if they are continuously high-and for most people they are because most people consume some type of wheat at breakfast (bread, cereal, croissant, muffin); then more wheat at lunch (sandwich, pasta) and again at dinner. And that doesn’t include any snacks or desserts throughout the day (crackers, cookies etc)–then you increase your AGE levels which leads to an acceleration in aging which shows up on your skin as wrinkles, blemishes, uneven skin tone and a general dullness.

Can you see how this works?

It all starts with what you eat.

Your skin is the external expression of your internal state.

Your parents, friends, and doctors will tell you its genetic (and it is).

Your parents both have diabetes so you have the diabetes gene. Yes, that’s true.

Your grandmother had cancer. Your chances of getting cancer are high. Yes, also true.

Everyone in your family get wrinkles by the age of 45. Yes, you’re probably right.


What they’re not telling you is this:

Your genetics are only a loaded gun. It’s full alright. With your parent’s genes, your grandparents, your great grandparents and then some.

But this loaded gun will only go off if it’s triggered.

And what are the triggers?

Food and Lifestyle.

So yes, if you EAT and DRINK and MOVE and LIVE in exactly the same way your parents, grandparents and your great grandparents did, you will probably have the same issues they did.

Here is the basic breakdown of the program.

Month 1: Foundation

Fad diets are built on quicksand. A sustainable healthy lifestyle and clear skin are built on a solid foundation.

Most people overeat and self-sabotage out of mental and emotional causes. We’ll get to the bottom of your challenges, look under the hood and uncover the REAL reasons that are holding you back from achieving sustainable results in your health and for your skin.

We’ll use a multitude of tools such as circle of life, journaling, goal setting, vision boarding, daily check-in, affirmations, and meditation. During this month you will also begin your new skin care routine.

 Month 2: Food Focus

We continue to focus on building a strong body and vibrant health that will serve as a platform for everything else you want to achieve in life.

You’ll be guided through a cleanse combined with an elimination diet to help you not only lose weight, purge your body of stored toxins, gain more energy and get rid of symptoms such as bloating, brain fog, mood swings and mystery aches, but also understand how YOUR body works and what specific foods may be causing allergic reactions, inflammation and a myriad of symptoms that make doctors shrug their shoulders.

Unlike other “detoxes,” I won’t just hand you a 10-day meal plan and leave you on your own. Instead, I’ll be there with you every step of the way to ensure success.

Cleansing your body and cleaning up your skin doesn’t have to be a frightening prospect

Will I be starving?

This program is not about starving or depriving you, and it’s not about counting calories. There are recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner — and even snacks in between. Each delicious meal was created by a fabulous chef in order to nourish your body from the inside out and ensure you feel satisfied with every bite.

Can I still workout?

Please do! If you feel tired or have low energy, exercising restores both of those. During this program, you’ll be eating protein and drinking plenty of liquids, so if you’re already exercising, there’s no reason to stop! Although it is important to note that, whenever you change the foods you eat, your body changes as well. Please talk to your doctor if you have any specific concerns about your health.

Do I have to take supplements, pills and powders?

Not in this program. The ONLY supplement I recommend that everyone take on a daily basis is a probiotic, and you’ll learn why in this program.

Am I only going to be drinking juices or smoothies?

No. While there ARE some juices and smoothies for you to choose from, you’ll also be eating salads, soups, and even desserts that are delicious, nutritious, and will eliminate toxins in your body in a safe and natural way.

What side effects might I experience?

Some people go through this program and feel nothing but energized, while others may feel tired or light-headed as their bodies eliminate and let go of unnecessary toxins. The experience will differ from one person to the next, but this program is designed with that in mind, and you’ll have access to all the tools you need to keep any unwanted symptoms at bay.

Can I do this if I’m nursing or pregnant?

If you’re nursing, I recommend that you add at least 4-6 ounces of protein at lunch and dinner, boost your morning smoothie with scoop flax seeds or bee pollen, and eat snacks in between meals. 

Make sure you consume extra fat and drink enough liquids. This program does not include any detox-provoking agents, but again, please consult with your doctor prior to starting this program if you have any health concerns.

Which proteins will I be eating?

You’ll start with plant-based protein and move on to animal-based proteins, which will be listed out for you in your recipes and suggested meals. There are so many “clean eating protein sources” to choose from, I guarantee you won’t get bored with your options!

I don’t eat gluten or dairy. How can this program help me?

Many people who eat clean can still benefit from an elimination diet. Changing up the foods we eat gives our digestion time to rest and reset, which can be helpful for anyone — regardless of their current eating habits.

I have a known medical condition. Is this program still safe for me?

While this program is based on eating whole foods only, I still recommend you consult your physician before beginning this or any program.

Will I feel weak during this program?

You’re out of time, out of energy and seemingly out of options.

Ultimately, you’re going to feel strong and energized. But in the beginning, your body may go through a “healing phase” to re-balance and let go of its toxicity. It’s important to listen to your body throughout this program, and I’ll be here to support you with that. I’ll guide you step by step through exactly what can be done to reduce any unwanted symptoms that may appear. This program is completely flexible and designed to help you figure out what works for YOU.
